Answer to myself

OK, no answer to this after a few days, so I tried it. I flashed software version 1.28 to my hardware version 3.1 board, and it works as hoped. RMC sentences now received from Seatalk input data. John

New software for old hardware

Hi I have an old bridge - hardware version 3.1. I don't use it with a LCD display. My existing bridge software does not support Seatalk GPS data to NMEA. I want RMC output to send to my new DSC VHF, but my GPS receiver gives Seatalk output only. If I load software version 1.28 for hardware 3.3 will this work? My old hardware has been working faultlessly for years now! John

di you have a pin-assignment ?
Well - I don't have much info about it. You could have a look at the Panbo Pages . They have some info on the SeaTalk 2000 wiring and Pins Raymarine STng, the pin mystery

seatalk as can, connection no problem more problem is themat

hi and thanks for your info who helps me a lot in looking for pin-assignments, about 10 years ago i programmed own transferprotocoll by using can-bus. the nice thing at this system is that all clients at can-bus can listen to all information and in header of each can-data-block (not verry big, about 32 or 36 byte) is a id of the sender. so it is easy to filter data form only one. also it is verry easy to get corect speed (listening-mode) and simulate to be a part of the system without get collision (the client-ident is the token) but my problem is that my equipment in can is about 8 years old and my software of this time is working in linux from about 2001 (my good old suse 6.4 i think, this machine is at my upper store) and the atmega is not the realy good base to workout. di you have a pin-assignment ? i could connect my old system to hear the data and send you a dum and how to read lower and more signifikant byte and about identifier bits in the header. the nice thing at can is, if there are about 20% of data are out of order, the reciever can repair on the fly. so no other checksum or algorithmus is necessary. only the description about all bits is confuse in every manual. if you ignore the complex descriptions you get verry fast infos about all. thanks a lot and let me know about the pins or protocol features. wolfgang :-)

Hi wolfgang, as far as I know, st70+ is a SeaTalk-NG device. The SeaTalk-NG network is a CAN based network compareable to NMEA2000 - but it's not 100% NMEA2000 compatible. This type of network is totally different to SeaTalk. The specs are not published and I have no idea how to connect a arduino to SeaTalk-NG. There is a NMEA2000<->NMEA converter avaliable on the market. Might be woth looking at it. But since SeaTalk NG is not 100% NMEA2000, I just don't know if that will work. Maybe you could keep up updated on how your project evolves. I would be very interested to hear from you, if you find a way to connect the ST70+ to something else but standard SeaTalk-NG . Regards Frank

Raymarine ST70Plus and ST70+ Seatalk-Bus-System question

hello, i'm new in kinds of NMEA and seatalk and have some questions about st70+ bus-system. this st70+ has a connector for bus-system with 6 pins and i connected the new st70 to the keyboard and it works. now i want to inject my own data from own sensors to that display. when i look through internet i find some circuit to connect for example a pc to to "seatalk" and in all circuits it is only one wire to exchange data. but why needs the st70 about 6 pins ? i know this instrument is new, has the bus-system changed ? this new display (my freind and owner of the system i habe in my laboratory) told me that it can display motor-data but old motors have no connector for seatalk. because i do with atmel microprocessor (arduino) he wants that i develop a controller for collecting motor-data and deliver them to the st70 display. now i nkow that there is more than my know how necessary. who can help ? wo is interested to corporate withe my one ? i can do in software and in hardware, but i need one who know about this seatalk-bus-system, knows about older systems, interested in new systems, and want to develop adaptor's to this st70+. at this point of project i have low money, but if it works and there will be more interested people, and if there is a market, i'll be open for every dialog and not be close. if you are not interested to work with me, but you can help by sending information about pin-assignment, please do it. thanks and thanks to this forum wolfgang beppler :-)

Re: Routes and WP transfer...

But i need to know if it is possible to transfer routes and waypoints from the laptop to the raymarine display (C80).
Hello Alain, sorry to say - no, it does not transfer routes. I hope to implement this function in the future - but currently the SeaTalk Nmea Link is NOT able to tranfer routes. Regards Frank

Where can I find newer sources, so I don't debug with old code?
Hi ecd, if you just send me your E-Mail address, i'll send you that latest software sources. Just send me a short reminder E-Mail to [code:1:4f1f955f35] fwallenwein at tklinux.de [/code:1:4f1f955f35] so that I have your E-Mail address. Reagrds Frank

Very nice, thank you. I do not have much development access during ongoing sailing season to my installation of the seatalkNmeaLink on board our boat, as the ship is sailing with different crews all season. I plan to dig into the software in more detail during this winter. There seems to be a bug (or problem, whatever) with positions reported by the seatalkNmeaLink. During longer journeys I find about 3 to 4 positions which are totally wrong either in latitude or longitude in my track logs over a period of 24 hours. I would like to debug this problem in more detail to help fix this. The last source code I have on my CD is version 1.32. Where can I find newer sources, so I don't debug with old code?

Routes and WP transfer...

Hi, I'm very interested about the Seatalk nmea link. But i need to know if it is possible to transfer routes and waypoints from the laptop to the raymarine display (C80). I use and save the routes and Wp with Raytech Navigator. With this soft, the Raymarine E85001 PC/NMEA/SEA Talk Interface Box RS232 allows this export. So, could you please indicate me, if your Seatalk Nmea link allows the transfer FROM the laptop to the Raymarine unit, and From the Raymarine to the laptop ? best regards, AlainS
