Today I received the device back from fpi999 - and believe it or not - it appears to be working just fine. For clarification - here's the connection diagram. [img:579f8cfb76]http://www.gadgetpool.de/nuke/projects/files/tmpprj55/LinkConnect1.JPG[/img:579f8cfb76] [img:579f8cfb76]http://www.gadgetpool.de/nuke/projects/files/tmpprj55/LinkConnect2.JPG[/img:579f8cfb76] I tried it again. When Plus and Minus are connected reversed, it will lead to a temporary seatalk failure on the other instruments on the seatalk bus. But, as soon as the Seatalk plug on the SeaTalk Nmea Link is unplugged, the Instruments come back again. I didn't even had to switch the other instruments off and on again. It might be necessary to switch off/on the other SeaTalk instruments - but I did not find that with any device I tried. If the seatalk link has been plugged in to the USB port with a reversed Seatalk +/- connection, it is necessary to unplug it from the USB port and replug it after the wrong +/- connection has been fixed. The seatalk link get's it's operating power supply from USB. To restart the seatalk link, we have to unplug it from the USB port. But - honestly - I could not find any way, where diconnecting it did NOT put the systems back into operation. I don't know who "hvblerk" is "in the real world" - could you tell me in which country your boat is ? Just an Idea. Next week I have one week vacation. And if it's not too far, and if we can't find out what's wrong - maybe I could check it "on site".

worriyng news

[quote:bd2f97bd66="fpi999"] Unfortunately with the same effect - errors on the seatalk instruments.
That sounds to me as if the device really has a serious problem. Strange - since we check every single bridge before sending - but obviously there is something wrong with it. I'll check it as soon as I have it in hands and let you know what I found out. If you like, I could send you a replacement SeaTalk Nmea Link for testing, so that we can find out if it was really the link, or if we had any other problem. Sorry about that !!! Of course we will refund your money immediately. @ hvblerk Any news from you ? Did you get your bridge to work ? Regards Frank
rewiring as you adviced crashed all myinstruments. deconnecting it did NOT put my systems back into operation. I am on an Island without Raymarine help. Their helpdesk suggest a complete resetting of my systems, losing all my data. As well I now need to sail without instruments but more worrying without steering aid. :evil: Again all help is much appreciated. before the system died the nmea monitor said input: ÷ SeaTalk<->Nmea Converter VER,1.62 $STVER,1.62 output: $GPRMC,190520,V,,,,,,,270710,0.0,E,A*3B $GPGSA,A,,,,,,,,,,,,,,14140.7,,*06 $GPGSV,1,1,00*79 $GPRMC,190521,V,,,,,,,270710,0.0,E,A*3A $GPGSA,A,,,,,,,,,,,,,,14140.7,,*06 $GPGSV,1,1,00*79 $GPRMC,190522,V,,,,,,,270710,0.0,E,A*39 $GPGSA,A,,,,,,,,,,,,,,14140.7,,*06 $GPGSV,1,1,00*79 $GPRMC,190523,V,,,,,,,270710,0.0,E,A*38 $GPGSA,A,,,,,,,,,,,,,,14140.7,,*06 $GPGSV,1,1,00*79 $GPRMC,190524,V,,,,,,,270710,0.0,E,A*3F $GPGSA,A,,,,,,,,,,,,,,14140.7,,*06 $GPGSV,1,1,00*79 $GPRMC,190525,V,,,,,,,270710,0.0,E,A*3E $GPGSA,A,,,,,,,,,,,,,,14140.7,,*06 $GPGSV,1,1,00*79 $GPRMC,190527,V,,,,,,,270710,0.0,E,A*3C $GPGSA,A,,,,,,,,,,,,,,14140.7,,*06 $GPGSV,1,1,00*79 $GPRMC,190528,V,,,,,,,270710,0.0,E,A*33 $GPGSA,A,,,,,,,,,,,,,,14140.7,,*06 $GPGSV,1,1,00*79 $GPRMC,190529,V,,,,,,,270710,0.0,E,A*32 $GPGSA,A,,,,,,,,,,,,,,14140.7,,*06 $GPGSV,1,1,00*79 $GPRMC,190530,V,,,,,,,270710,0.0,E,A*3A $GPGSA,A,,,,,,,,,,,,,,14140.7,,*06 $GPGSV,1,1,00*79 $GPRMC,190531,V,,,,,,,270710,0.0,E,A*3B $GPGSA,A,,,,,,,,,,,,,,14140.7,,*06 $GPGSV,1,1,00*79 $GPRMC,190532,V,,,,,,,270710,0.0,E,A*38 $GPGSA,A,,,,,,,,,,,,,,14140.7,,*06 $GPGSV,1,1,00*79 $GPRMC,190533,V,,,,,,,270710,0.0,E,A*39 $GPGSA,A,,,,,,,,,,,,,,14140.7,,*06 $GPGSV,1,1,00*79 $GPRMC,190534,V,,,,,,,270710,0.0,E,A*3E $GPGSA,A,,,,,,,,,,,,,,14140.7,,*06 $GPGSV,1,1,00*79 $GPRMC,190535,V,,,,,,,270710,0.0,E,A*3F $GPGSA,A,,,,,,,,,,,,,,14140.7,,*06 $GPGSV,1,1,00*79 $GPRMC,190536,V,,,,,,,270710,0.0,E,A*3C $GPGSA,A,,,,,,,,,,,,,,14140.7,,*06 $GPGSV,1,1,00*79 $GPRMC,190537,V,,,,,,,270710,0.0,E,A*3D $GPGSA,A,,,,,,,,,,,,,,14140.7,,*06 $GPGSV,1,1,00*79 $GPRMC,190539,V,,,,,,,270710,0.0,E,A*33

I have followed your advice regarding the polarity of the link and reversed the red and silver wires. Unfortunately with the same effect - errors on the seatalk instruments. Clearly there is a problem with this unit because I cannot talk to it using HyperTerminal either so I will be sending it back for a refund. Shame!

To : hvblerk and fpi999. Let's find out what to do. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the SeaTalk connection. + ST - In the Manual of the SeaTalk Nmea Link, you find a picture showing how to connect SeaTalk. We have the wrong picture in the Manual, so we draw the propper connection in this picture by hand. We (hope to) do that with evey rmanual we sent out. Question : Does the manual you received has this "hand drawn changes" in it ? ( I'll update the manual in the next day's and send you a new version ) Would you please just exchange Plus ( RED ) and Minus ( Silver ) on your SeaTalk Nmea Link and try again. The SeaTalk Nmea Link is galvanic isolated, so there is no danger or problem if plus and minus are wrong. It's just, that the SeaTalk Bus won't work anymore, if plus and minus are reversed. And - as you both say - you dan't receive any data and your SeaTalk Bus is not working anymore. This error pattern appears to me as if we have plus and minus connected wrong. That's for your help Best regards Frank WARNING ! This advise is ONLY for galvanic isolated version the the SeaTalk Nmea Link. Never ever try this with a non isolated SeaTalk Nmea Link or with a SeaTalk Nmea Bridge

I also recently purchased an USB Seatalk-NMEA Bridge and I am having problems getting it to work. 1. I first installed the usb serail port driver in windows - this works fine. 2. I connected the terminal to the seatalk bus according to the instruction pamphlet 3. After a short time the seatalk instruments started beeping and showing errors. The chartplotter did not pick up the GPS. 4. I checked the seatalk connections to ensure that I had not mis-connected - this was OK. I tried another connection to the seatalk bus but with the same results. 5 I tried a Hyper-termital session according to the instructions and I could not communicate with the device. 6.The only sign of life is a flashing LED I think its worrying that i can't communicate with the device. - Any ideas? Philip

It gave directly a seatalk failure on all instruments on board. Could you make clear how to wire it? there was a remark in the description but nothing on the website. What is the right position for each wire? We have red, yellow and ground.

Hi hvblerk, could you give us some more details on what the problerms are ? > I am open to any tips and tricks to make it work. Does it nort work at all ? Regards Frank
